I called out Nick Denton on his authored piece about the Hogan case on Gawker. And, once again, got myself banned from Gawker.
But I won’t be making up a new username to be able to comment there. I’m done.
I’ve gone a week without commenting there and don’t miss it. The level of idiocy is too high on the comment threads now. There are still good intelligent commenters, with knowledge of the subjects far greater than mine or most people. And I still enjoy seeing them.
But they’re buried under hot takes, racism, sexism, homophobia, and just plain trollish-ness. It’s a drag now.
I still read Gawker. But engaging over there just seems pointless. Denton got his wish: All the attention, with commenters being little better than troll-bots, attracting other trolls to click.
